Easter Traditions/ Pâques

Sunday, the 4th of April was Easter Sunday in Brittany like everywhere in France . In the morning, churchbells rang and geese back from Rome dropped their chocolate Easter eggs,  rabbits, hens, and bells  in gardens and homes (yes, even in homes). Kids had fun looking for them and eating them afterwards of course!

Apart from cultural traditions,  religious ceremonies celebrate the  rebirth of Christ.

Easter time is a happy time for kids and parents alike who get together with family and friends during Easter week-end.

Before Easter and after Easter, chocolate and pastry shops as well as supermarkets sell wonderfully decorated eggs, rabbits, hens, bells and fish adorned with colorful ribbons. Some of the best “chocolatiers” compete for the best, the biggest, the most beautiful or exquisite chocolate creation. They manage to create real works of Art to be admired and it is a pity to eat them later.

Springtime means Easter but it also means blooming trees. “Spring is bowery, showery flowery” and from the windows of our classrooms at Kerhallet Highschool we have the privilege of rejoicing at the sight of marvelous cherry tree blossoms at Easter time.

Easter week-end being longer than usual: Saturday, Sunday and Monday, it is also the oppotunity to go for walks and to visit our region with family or friends even though the weather is not always favorable but in Brittany the rain and wind shouldn’t stop you from going out or you would never do anything as the sky is always changing and the  minute it starts raining, the sun is getting ready to shine.

Enjoy these few snapshots taken on Easter Sunday at home and on a leisurely “tour” of  inland Brittany.

I admired your excellent home decoration and your beautiful chapels. You are right Isabelle, Easter comes always in the blessed season of Spring gifted with all the colors and perfumes of the flowers!
I love spring and summer! Maybe I would not be happy living somewhere that those two seasons last for a very short time…..

Thanks Vicky! I enjoy spring, summer, autumn and winter as long as they are not too rainy. The four seasons have charm but I think you are lucky in Greece to have warmth in the summer. I long for it all year long in Brittany where it is rarely hot enough for me. On your photos of Easter in Greece, I could see that you can celebrate Easter in the garden, with those lovely decorated tables.

Here we go! Isabelle is complaining about our Breton weather! We would miss rain if we didn’t have any :-) We are called “froggies” aren’t we? Have you ever seen frogs without rain?

It is cool. In my country, Easter is a little bit different. We don’t look for chocolate eggs but it is so interesting and children have a good time.So great.

Thank you Wioleta for this information. I believe your country is Poland, isn’t it? And you are right, children love looking for chocolate eggs, it’s so much fun! And they are so delicious for our delicate palates!

Thank you for your comments. Matteusz, I hope that we will be able to offer you free virtual visits to all the different landscapes of our regions on this blog. I know France and especially Brittany is far away from Poland unfortunately but this blog exists for us to share all the wonders of our European inland regions. I myself would love to discover Lebork in reality but reading about it and looking at all your photos and drawings is already fantastic!
Thank you also Aneta! I am glad you enjoyed reading this article about Easter. I am also looking forward to learning more about your traditions. The cat is flattered too indeed and she says thank you for the compliment.
